THE FOUNDATION FOR CONTINUOUS SECURITY TESTING

ATTACK SURFACE DISCOVERY

Know What’s Exposed. Know It’s Yours.

You can't protect what you can't see. And you can't trust what's not validated. Bishop Fox Attack Surface Discovery continuously finds your internet-facing assets, confirms they belong to you, and keeps your inventory current as your environment changes, all managed by our experts.

WE SEE WHAT ATTACKERS SEE

DISCOVERY YOU CAN TRUST

Internet-facing exposure is attackers’ number one way in and most security teams cannot see all of theirs. Spreadsheets go stale. Do-it-yourself discovery tools return thousands of assets without telling you which ones are actually yours.

Leveraging the Cosmos Platform, our Attack Surface Intelligence (ASI) team continuously discovers your external footprint, including domains, subdomains, networks, cloud accounts, and services, using a brand/domain-centric approach that reflects how adversaries actually hunt. Shadow IT, forgotten infrastructure, and assets from an acquisition surface on our side before they become a blind spot on yours.

Then we do the part most tools skip. Our ASI team confirms every asset belongs to your organization, and each one carries an evidence-based confidence rating that shows why it is attributed to you. We absorb the noise and hand you a validated inventory, not a raw feed to sort.

HOW IT WORKS

Start With What You Know. We Do the Rest.

DISCOVER & EXPAND

We start with the domains, IP ranges, cloud accounts, and organization names you give us, plus any assets you already track, then expand across public internet data such as DNS, certificate transparency, WHOIS, routing, and hosting records. Connected cloud accounts are enumerated from the source, catching fast-changing cloud infrastructure that an outside-in scan can miss.

VALIDATE & ATTRIBUTE

Before an asset enters your inventory, our ASI team confirms it is yours. Each asset carries an evidence-based confidence rating drawn from signals like DNS, certificate, WHOIS, hosting, and routing data, so you can see why it is attributed to you. Assets you submit are held to the same standard.

CHECK THE HYGIENE

Continuous checks surface exposed or risky services, certificate and TLS issues, spoofable email settings, and risky DNS records. These are verified facts about your exposure, so you can close the easy ways in and shrink your risk before an attacker finds them.

MONITOR & IMPROVE

Discovery never stops. You are alerted when a new asset is discovered and attributed, when an ownership question needs your review, when a hygiene issue is found, and when an asset leaves scope. What we learn from each pass sharpens the next.

PART OF CONTINUOUS SECURITY TESTING

Every Answer Starts With Your Inventory

Every test and every threat check is only as good as the inventory behind it. Pair Attack Surface Discovery with Attack Surface Testing and Emerging Threat Testing, and both work from what you actually expose, as it changes.

In a Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) program, Attack Surface Discovery covers the Scoping and Discovery stages, so every later stage starts from what you actually expose, not an old asset list.

Attack Surface Discovery Explained

Frequently Asked Questions

What is attack surface discovery?

Attack surface discovery is the ongoing process of finding the internet-facing assets your organization exposes, such as domains, subdomains, networks, cloud accounts, and accessible services, and confirming which ones belong to you.

What hygiene issues does Attack Surface Discovery catch?

Continuous checks surface expiring certificates, certificate and TLS issues, spoofable email settings, hijackable DNS records, and exposed or risky services. These are verified facts about your exposure. Attack Surface Testing confirms which ones are exploitable.

Do I need to install agents?

No. Discovery is external by design and works without agents or logins. Your inventory is available in the Bishop Fox Portal, through the public API, and with a read-only AI assistant.

Why does ownership validation matter?

Discovery tools can return thousands of assets without telling you which ones are yours. Our ASI team confirms ownership before an asset enters your inventory, and each asset carries an evidence-based confidence rating that shows why it is attributed to you.

Can I submit assets I already know about?

Yes. Assets you submit are held to the same validation standard, so you keep one clean inventory whether we found the asset or you did

Do I need Attack Surface Discovery before Attack Surface Testing or Emerging Threat Testing?

No. The services work together or on their own. If you already have an asset list, the other services can work from it, and adding discovery turns a static list into a live, validated scope.
