Newport Beach, Calif. -- Dec. 7, 2021 -- The ioXt Alliance, the global standard for IoT security, today announced the addition of Bishop Fox, the largest private offensive security testing firm, to the ioXt Authorized Labs Certification Program. Authorized Labs are the exclusive test providers for the ioXt Alliance and perform all testing required for devices to be certified by the Alliance and to bear the ioXt SmartCert, which provides security assurance to consumers and enterprises.

“With nearly two decades of experience, we take pride in the depth of expertise our team brings to helping ensure thousands of connected products and devices are more resilient against advanced cyberattacks,” said Tom Eston, associate vice president of consulting at Bishop Fox. “Joining forces with ioXt Alliance’s Authorized Labs Certification Program empowers us to embed robust security into a growing number of products, and in doing so, fulfill Bishop Fox’s mission to create a world that is safer from cyberattacks through meaningful, impactful work.”

Using the latest hardware testing tools and techniques, such as glitching and side-channel analysis with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), Bishop Fox has uncovered device security vulnerabilities down to the chip level. The organization’s assessments cover the full spectrum of IoT testing, including reviews of firmware security and the firmware update process to identify and close gaps commonly exploited by attackers.

“We're dissatisfied with today's cybersecurity status quo that 'breaches are inevitable,’” said Joe Britt, CEO of Afero, a next-generation IoT platform as a service. “It was essential to work with a trusted Authorized Labs partner during our ioXt Certification that is aligned with this sentiment. Bishop Fox made it clear from day one that they are passionate about proactive security measures and uncovering vulnerabilities before they are exploited.”

The ioXt Alliance’s network of Authorized Labs are an invaluable part of advancing its mission of building manufacturer and consumer confidence in the security of IoT products. The Authorized Labs are global leaders of compliance and security testing and provide exclusive, third-party validation to connected devices through the ioXt Certification Program. The rigorous program is composed of eight security principles focused on the security, upgradability and transparency of devices, and after testing, products that meet or exceed the requirements in its designated category receive the ioXt SmartCert seal of security.

“Authorized Labs are vital to ioXt Alliance -- this group of innovative organizations pave the way in ensuring connected devices are secure and safe,” said Jan Bondoc, director of information technology at ioXt Alliance. “ioXt Alliance, with a mission to make all connected devices safer and more secure to consumers, is bringing a new paradigm to the security industry, and we’re thrilled that Bishop Fox -- a proven trusted advisor to some of the biggest names in tech -- will be working alongside us to advance security in the IoT industry.”
